The World Final Round of the IISL Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition will be held virtually on 26 October 2021 from 14.00 – 16.00 (CEST). In order to attend the finals please register at, and you will be provided with connection details. The videoconferencing platform for this year’s finals has been generously provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) in connection with the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL).

The case, which will be pleaded before three Judges from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), is Proclivia vs Asteria (available here) and concerns mega-constellations, autonomous space operations, and freedom of scientific investigation. The case presents some timely legal issues raised by the recent “NewSpace” wave of new satellite systems utilizing hundreds to tens of thousands of satellites in Low Earth Orbit to deliver services anywhere on the planet.

The semi-finals of the competition will be held 18 October 2021 and thereafter we will provide further information regarding the final two teams competing in the World Finals. Please join us Tuesday, 26 October for what promises to be an exciting and stimulating argument of both sides of these legal issues.
