Call for Candidates: 2026 IISL Elections Now Open

The International Institute of Space Law is pleased to announce the opening of its election cycle and invites qualified and motivated individuals to stand as candidates. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the Institute’s mission, governance, and continued advancement in the field of space law.

The positions with expiring terms are:

Treasurer
Dennis Burnett,

Executive Secretary
PJ Blount,

Directors

Frans von der Dunk,

Mahulena Hofmann,

Olga Stelmakh-Drescher.

Please note that one of the two Vice-President positions, currently held on an interim basis by Olavo de Oliveira Bittencourt Neto, is now also officially open for candidacy. Olavo had been appointed by the IISL President as interim Vice-President when that position became vacant after the last cycle of elections. His elected Director position will expire in 2028.

Candidates are invited to complete the official nomination process by providing their professional details, experience, and vision for the role.

Candidates shall be nominated by an IISL Member in good standing and supported by five IISL Members in good standing, and confirmed their agreement with being nominated. Voting period and voting procedure

In accordance with the IISL Statutes and By-Laws the Election Committee is authorized to draw up the list of qualifying candidates, supervise the election process, and count the votes. Voting will take place between June 15 and July 15, 2026. Please note that there is only one vote per institutional member, and the IISL Election Committee must be notified as soon as possible (and definitely prior to voting) as to who is the designated Point of Contact (POC). Notification can be done by email to elections@iisl.space
